Three days ago the BR Heavy Freight Pack was added to TSW2's preserved collection. This is an expansion pack for the Northern Transpennine route, and includes two diesel locomotives - the Class 08 and Class 40 - and two freight wagons - 12-ton vans and 100-ton tank wagons.
Today we'll be doing a little shunting turn in the Leeds area, and the engine we'll drive is Class 08 No. 08676. The Class 08 is one of the most successful diesel shunters in Great Britain, with a staggering 996 engines of this class being built between 1952 and 1962. Today there are at least 100 Class 08's still in existance, be it in revenue service or preservation.
Our run with the Class 08 will start at Leeds City station. We have to use the engine to collect a rake of five covered vans and take them down the line to Holbeck Depot. The wagons are full of supplies that Holbeck staff will use in locomotive maintenance.
