This video was filmed in March of 2024.
This railroad crossing was closed for several months because in January of 2024, San Diego had a once in a 100 year storm with very heavy rain that lasted for hours and the flood channel just on the other side of the tracks overflowed and turned roads into raging rivers. The river was so high that it took over the train tracks too and wiped out parts of it including the railroad crossing signal on the other side of the tracks.
During this video in March of 2024, the tracks were just repaired, but the job wasn't completely finished yet because this railroad crossing was still under repair and new crossing signals needed to be installed on the other side of the tracks. While that was happening, the crossing was closed to traffic and the trolleys had to stop before proceeding slowly for a while because the new tracks were still settling.
As I am typing this in August of 2025, this railroad crossing has opened again, new railroad signals were installed on the other side of the tracks, and trolleys are moving at normal speed again.
Make sure you check out my video below of this crossing in June of 2022, a few years before the storm.
