India Is Building A Full-Stack Chip Ecosystem, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw At Davos

Описание: Speaking at BT Davos 2026, Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw outlines India’s rapidly evolving semiconductor strategy, arguing that few large, comparable economies are moving at a similar pace or scale. In conversation with Siddharth Zarabi, Group Editor, Business Today, the minister says industry leaders now see India as one of the only countries building an end-to-end chip ecosystem spanning design, fabrication, assembly and electronics manufacturing. Vaishnaw highlights that India is already designing 2-nanometre chips, supported by 24 semiconductor start-ups and a growing talent pool of over 65,000 students engaged in chip design and manufacturing. He adds that fabrication facilities are progressing rapidly in Dholera, with multiple units expected to begin commercial production in 2026, while downstream electronics manufacturing continues to expand. The minister notes that electronics manufacturing and IT services together now form a major export engine for India, with electronics exports becoming the third-largest export category and poised to move higher. Calling semiconductors a newly established but fast-maturing industry, Vaishnaw says India’s roadmap is clearly defined, with ambitions to produce 7-nanometre chips by 2030 and 3-nanometre chips by 2032, positioning the country as a serious long-term player in the global chip value chain.
