Описание: A polystrate fossil is a fossil of a single organism, such as a tree trunk, that extends through more than one geological stratum. The term "polystrate" was coined to describe a fossil that is encased within more than one layer of rock, thus "poly" or "many layers." Polystrate fossils have been a mainstay of the debates in geology going all the way back to the earliest days of the deep-time controversy arising in the 18th century. Even secular geologists are forced to admit these layers had to be deposited rapidly, especially when dealing with fossils of considerable height, such as polystrate trees and giant tree-like reeds called lycopods. Polystrate fossils are found on a worldwide scale, including in Specimen Ridge in Yellowstone, Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park in Washington, and Joggins, Nova Scotia.0
