The fabric I am using is one of my favorites: raw silk also known as silk noil. You can order it at Thai Silks via this link here: https://www.thaisilks.com/product_inf...
You can also use linen, cotton double gauze, or any light to mid-weight woven fabric that has a nice drape.
When you insert elastic into the waistband, the tool I am using is called a Bodkin Elastic Threader. It is a lot easier than using a safety pin to insert elastic, and safer!
I use a 4-thread Singer serger (overlock) machine to put together the main seams of the pant. For the straight stitching, I use my industrial single needle Juki sewing machine. I don't expect you to have a Juki, and your home sewing machine will do perfectly!
If you don't own a serger, you can use a home sewing machine with a straight stitch and zig-zag function. Sew all of the seams with a straight stitch and run a zig-zag stitch along the raw seam edges so the fabric does not fray.
