Who controls the land – and who gets left behind?
Re-watch this WEBINAR & DISCUSSION in English from 30 June 2025 – co-hosted by IPES-Food and the International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty Working Group on Land, Forests, Water and Territories.
As land becomes a key battleground for climate action, food production, and green investment, small-scale farmers and rural communities are being pushed to the margins. What will it take to reclaim land justice?
Speakers from governments, grassroots movements, and international organisations – including Shirley Anny Abreu do Nascimento (Government of Brazil), Jose Luis Quiroga Pacheco (Government of Colombia), Terries Ndove (Government of South Africa), Benjamin Davis (FAO), Massa Koné (Mali) and Nury Martinez (La Via Campesina) – came together for a powerful exchange on rising land inequality and the global land squeeze.
From carbon offset schemes to urban expansion and large-scale monoculture, farmland is under growing pressure – with devastating consequences for small-scale farmers, Indigenous peoples, and rural communities. Yet with major political moments approaching, including COP30 and the International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICAARD+20), now is the time to build momentum for transformative land governance.
This webinar explored what’s driving land dispossession – and what it will take to ensure land reform delivers justice, food sovereignty, and climate resilience.
