Pioneer HPM 30 refoam with home made shims

Описание: Please read, After the success last year with refoaming the Pioneer HPM700 graphite woofers I finally found a pair of HPM30 which I had sought after for some 29 years. These are the baby of the HPM range but they kick ass and are mega rare.The woofers are 8 inches hence the 20 prefix in the part number (20cm) They very rarely appear for sale so I snapped them up as soon as I found them.They looked like they had been stored in someones garage and had some brown stuff spilled over them, Not sure if it was coffee or paint but it had stained the cones. I got a paint match from a colour scan of the supertweeter in B and Q and painted the cones. For viewers in the US, B and Q is the UK equivalent of Home Depot I guess. The coil gap in these was very tight and I quickly lost confidence as I knew I would have to shim them and I had never done this before. I got lucky with the HPM700s and guessed it without cutting off the dust caps. I had an idea and used normal printer paper for the shims. It worked perfectly. Thanks again to the guys at Simply Speakers in Florida for supplying the refoam kit and also to the guys at Queensland Speaker repairs in Brisbane Australia for supplying the dust caps. Sadly I had to source all parts overseas as nobody seems to supply these parts in the UK. Also many thanks to Francisco for selling them to me and going out of his way to arrange shipping to me, his Youtube name is txikomb and he uploaded a video of them running without foams. He has since moved to Spain and he didn't want to take them with him. I will upload a video of them working when I have restored the cabinets and yes I have re capped the crossovers. ( Crossover caps came from Holland) Incidentally my lovely girlfriend spent 3 hours cleaning all the old glue and gaskets off with cellulose thinners in case you wondered why they were so clean.
