This video discusses the origin of atrial flutter, its characteristics, causes, signs & symptoms as well as interventions.
Please refer to the “Atrial Rhythms” Playlist for more videos about premature atrial contractions (PACs), atrial fibrillation, and supraventricular tachycardia (SVT).
Atrial flutter RULES:
(**indicates deviation from normal**)
1. Rate:
**Atrial rate: 250-450 bpm
Ventricular rate: count QRS complexes
2. Rhythm:
**Ir/Regular
Atrial rate may be regular
Ventricular rate may be regular or irregular depending on AV conduction/blockage
3. P-wave:
**Not identifiable
**“SAW-TOOTH” OR FLUTTER WAVES
**Greater than 1 for every QRS complex
4. Intervals:
**PRI: Not measurable
QRS: Less than 0.12 (=normal)
