Ep. 124 1/2 BONUS - FUN BEADED HALLOWEEN MOSAICS!
Using four fun Halloween shapes from a dollar bin at Michaels, I start by painting certain areas of primed wooden substrates with craft acrylic paint. I have a jack-o-lantern, a ghost, a bat and a skull. I like these shapes because they are chunky enough to stand up on their own. They are about 4" tall.
I add diluted Weldbond/water (50/50) mixture to the recessed areas of the jack-o-lantern, then dump yellow beads in and scoot them into their designated areas with a mini crowbar. Then I apply another bit of diluted adhesive mixture. Bead clean-up is easy with my bead tray.
Next, I tackle the little ghost with short little orange bugle beads. Then I add adhesive mixture and black seed beads to the skull substrate. I follow that up with the purple seed beads on the bat, flooding the areas with 50/50 Weldbond/water mixture at the beginning and end.
I let the adhesive dry overnight. The next day, I start with long orange twisty bugle beads on the border and edging the recessed areas. These are applied individually after dipping them in Weldbond using tweezers. Several were cut with wheeled nippers to fit the outline.
Next up was the bat! I outlined the wings with long black bugle beads, then added some faceted black iridized beads around the little body. Last of all, I added strung seed beads to the bottom of the wings and pulled the strings. The last two beads were easier to apply with E6000.
On to the fun ghost! I outlined with white bugle beads, cutting with wheeled nippers as needed to go around curves. These were individually dipped in Weldbond and applied with tweezers. Then I added E6000 and strung seed beads to the bottom, pulling out the string once the beads were in place.
For the skull, I used round clear beads on a hank with E6000. This was the fastest one and I knocked that outline out very quickly, adjusting it once the string was pulled out. For the outline of the eyes and nose, I switched to long white bugle beads. Then I did some dental work, cutting beads to fit the teeth which were all different sizes!
For the last beading step, I filled in the body of the bat with black hex beads. The little eye holes were covered by beads and were lost, so I added two diamond shaped beads in purple, then flooded the areas one last time. The pumpkin was next and I dumped the little orange hex beads and adjusted them by hand before flooding the areas with diluted adhesive. Then I used E6000 and some brown pearls and square beads to the stem, filling in the area. For the ghost, I used some glow
-in-the-dark seed beads. I adjusted them and then added the diluted Weldbond. I wanted the skull to be a bit different than the ghost, so I mixed glow-in-the-dark beads with some sparkly white hex beads, once again flooding with adhesive when done.
Several hours later, when they were dry, I sprayed them with Rust-oleum Gloss Clear Sealant. Once that was completely dry, they were DONE!!!
I ended up giving them to my adult kids, all in their 20's. They loved them!!!
