When I was a young sprout I had a few guitar heroes whose work made me want to follow in their path. Lead Belly most of all, but Brownie McGhee was one of those master pickers, and his intricate and sophisticated style is distinctive among country blues players. I never learned to play like him, but he remains an inspiration.
P.S: Those who know Brownie's tune already might have some suspicions about that verse about my stage name (2:00); I admit I sort of stuck that in there, thinking a bit of jocularity might leaven the gloom. No disrespect whatever intended toward Brownie or the song! I'd hope he might get a chuckle out of it, though I'll never know.
