Welcome to Part 3 of my Wellington series, filmed on Saturday May 14. This video mostly features the regular Matangi EMUs near Takapu Road station, and in addition to the electrics I also filmed a few KiwiRail locomotives, most noteably DFB 7213 with the Around The Block excursion.
Incidentally I was with a few of my old friends while filming the excursion, and the DFB's driver even let me have a look in the cab (I must stress that the cab visit wasn't planned in advance).
Despite being an excursion, KiwiRail's DFB 7213 and the Capital Connection coaches were used instead of Feilding's own rolling stock, as none of their coaches are mainline-certified. As for their locomotives, a volunteer told me that WAB 794 - their big 4-6-4 tank engine - is still undergoing restoration, but I forgot to ask how DA 1401, X 442 and F 163 were getting on.
