This past weekend, Union Pacific sent their Office Car Special to the East Coast with the "Spirit of the Union Pacific" leading the way.
The train left from Council Bluffs, IA on May 30th and arrived at Croxton Yard in New Jersey on the night of May 31st. The first portion of my chase takes place on May 31st, from Hershey, PA to Flemington, NJ.
The second portion of the chase took place on June 3rd, when the train ran to Harriman, NY and Campbell Hall, NY via the Bergen County/Port Jervis Lines.
This train brought railfans out in droves during its visit, and at Harriman, NY where the train stopped for an event, I witnessed what I think was the largest railfan crowd I've ever seen out to film and photograph a special move.
I can say that seeing UP 1943 and the UP OCS itself was something I'd never thought I'd see, not only in my area, but crossing Moodna Viaduct, which was by far the best part of the whole thing.
