The Allahabad High Court has issued contempt notices to Bareilly DM Ravindra Kumar and SSP Anurag Arya over allegations that people were prevented from offering Namaz inside a private house in Mohammaganj, Bareilly. Petitioner Tariq Khan told the Court that police had earlier detained him and others for praying in a private property without permission.
The Court referred to its January 27 order in the Maranatha Full Gospel Ministries case, which said prayers inside private property do not require official permission. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for March 11, and coercive action against the petitioner has been stayed.
