Happy monday and happy black history month everyone! Spider-Man Miles Morales is such an interesting game to me because it’s largely forgotten by most gamers. Spider-Man 1 was a better game and larger too, and then Spider-Man 2 is so controversial that it too overshadows any discussion of Miles Morales. Despite this it is full of all the love, care, and swagger that Insomniac has put into all their games, and that means that in every nook and cranny there is something interesting to see, so today, we’re going to look at a bunch of, largely useless information, in Spider-Man Miles Morales.

So we know that Miles' father is named Jefferson Davis, and yet, Miles takes his mothers last name or Morales. I think this is done because, with Morales being a common PuertoRican last name, we can see his heritage off the bat, but if you consider an alternate reality where Miles had his fathers last name, then we would have a character named Miles Davis, the same name of one of the most influential jazz players in the world. I think this is abundantly intentional for Miles' connection to hip-hop and black art within Insomniac's universe. Davis’ work is sampled endlessly by artists; such as Erika Badhu's opening track on her debut album, called RimShot, which samples the song So What from Miles Davis. Gang Starr has sampled what feels like a million Davis songs, and for a more modern example, Mac Miller samples the Davis song Ghetto Walk in the second song from 2014 album Faces, called Friends. When we also consider that we had the cultural museum in Spider-Man 2, I feel even more so that his fathers last name was a specific choice.

The game starts with Miles just moving into his Harlem apartment, and every time you return to the apartment, you can see his room progressively get more unpacked. This includes some comics on his shelf, and a sampling station, where I’m sure he’s plugging in some of the albums we saw earlier during christmas dinner, and of course, once the identity is revealed he displays his suit. I think it’s interesting that both Miles and Peter don’t wear their suits under their clothes like previous Spider-Men have. In fact, I believe they only started doing so in the second game. Other parts of the apartment change across the game too, like Rios campaign funding goal being hit by the end of the game, and Rio having painkillers on her bedside table following her injury at the rally.

During one of the missions where you escape from a Roxxon facility, you can see a screen with silhouettes of the different criminals on Roxxon's mercenary list. The first we can see is black cat, then we can see tombstone, two criminals that are out of the game for a while after the events of Spider-Man 1 and the city that never sleeps expansion. Then, we can see a third character, who is recently back in the game, and is an infiltration expert whose loyalty is uncertain. Sound familiar? That’s right, it's the vulture!

Spider-Man Miles Morales, has a ton of ester eggs, and these Spider-Man Miles Morales easter eggs will be chronicled in the video of useless information. These Spider-Man Miles Morales secrets, Miles Morale secrets, some of which connect to Spider-Man 2, are why I love Marvels Spider-Man Miles Morales, potentially more than Marvels Spider-Man 2. Not more than the first Marvels Spider-Man though. This video will not be a Miles Morales story explained, but it will spoil the Miles Morales ending.
