"Thank God, I am fasting and praying , and praise be to God — I have also performed Hajj. But I went back to my home in the southern suburbs and paid one million Lebanese lira ($11) for a car ride just so I could pray, because I don’t have any extra clothes or anything with me to perform my prayers. I’m fasting but I can’t pray properly. And here there isn’t even a place for ablution.”

STORYLINE:
Displaced Lebanese Muslims have struggled to observe Ramadan as they lack basic necessities, including shelter and food.
Many gathered around Mohammad al-Amin Mosque on Friday in the open air, seeking whatever temporary shelter they can find, as Israeli strikes intensified.
Jihan Shehadeh, a displaced woman from Beirut's southern suburbs, is one of the people sheltering in the mosque during the day, and sleeping in the family car at night.
She said the mosque has provided them with a meal for iftar, the sunset meal that ends the daily fast and the pre-dawn meal suhoor.
Waad Hijaz, another displaced person from Baalbek, said that the family had to find their own food, saying they've been forced to pray in the streets.
"We rely on God, and God willing everything will be okay. May God grant us victory," she said.
The strikes in Lebanon were the heaviest since a 2024 ceasefire ended the last war between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah, who fired rockets at Israel in the opening days of the latest conflict.
Tens of thousands have fled Beirut’s suburbs and southern Lebanon after sweeping Israeli evacuation warnings.
Hundreds of thousands of people in Lebanon have been displaced so far in the dayslong conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group, the International Committee of the Red Cross says.
