You might assume that you’d get more oxygen into your body by hyperventilating or over-breathing. But in reality, you’d be left feeling breathless and light-headed because as you breathe out quickly, you expel more carbon dioxide from your body.
The Bohr effect explains that hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen, releases oxygen more easily in areas of the body where there is MORE carbon dioxide.
So instead of breathing quickly, take deep breaths in and exhale slowly.
