Описание: The Potitii and Pinarii families were two ancient Roman clans closely connected with the early worship of Hercules in Rome. According to Roman tradition, these families were entrusted with the sacred rites at the Ara Maxima, the great altar of Hercules near the Forum Boarium, which was believed to have been established after Hercules defeated the monster Cacus. The Potitii and Pinarii were responsible for performing the rituals and preserving the ancient traditions connected with the hero’s cult. Over time, the Potitii family reportedly declined after transferring their sacred duties to public priests, while the Pinarii continued to be remembered as guardians of one of Rome’s oldest religious traditions, linking these families to the legendary beginnings of Roman worship.
