The Class 390 “Pendolino” is a family of high-speed tilting electric multiple unit (EMU) trains that operates on Britain’s West Coast Main Line (WCML). Designed for long-distance intercity services, the Class 390s are known for their distinctive tilting technology, which allows them to maintain high speeds on the line’s many curves.

Avanti West Coast's Climate Train will now be known as "Opportunity" following a nationwide search to find a worthy name.

A competition on social media was launched last October after the Pendolino was wrapped in a unique design championing rail travel, as part of Avanti West Coast’s partnership with Eurostar to transport delegates attending the COP26 Climate Change Conference between Amsterdam and Glasgow.

The successful suggestion was put forward by Kyla Louise Poulton, 18, from Milton Keynes, which was picked by an Avanti West Coast panel from 150 entries.

Avanti West Coast is a train operating company in the United Kingdom, responsible for managing services along the West Coast Main Line (WCML). Avanti took over from Virgin Trains in December 2019 and operates intercity services between major cities in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Carstairs railway station is a small but important station located in the village of Carstairs in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It primarily serves as a junction station for rail lines connecting Glasgow, Edinburgh, and other parts of Scotland with destinations further south, including London.

The West Coast Main Line (WCML) is one of the UK’s most important and busiest railway corridors, running from London Euston to Glasgow Central. It spans roughly 400 miles and passes through major cities and regions including Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, and Carlisle. The WCML serves both passenger and freight services, and it’s a key route for long-distance, regional, and commuter trains.
