Croatia’s success story: from transition to resilience

Описание: Over the past 30 years, Croatia has gone from being a low-income country and a significant recipient of development assistance to being a high-income country and a global donor.

Croatia began working with the EBRD within months of gaining its independence. With the EBRD’s support, it established a democracy and an open economy. Post-war reconstruction and the transition to market economics in the 1990s were followed by the consolidation of democratic and market institutions and preparations for accession to the EU in the 2000s. Today, Croatia is an EU member state and a member of the eurozone and the Schengen area, enjoying its highest ever credit ratings with all major rating agencies. With some of the fastest economic growth in the EU, Croatia is outperforming its peers. As well as boasting a vibrant tourism sector and high-quality infrastructure, it is also emerging as a regional energy hub and a centre of excellence for innovation in the IT sector and the electric car industry.
