To date all my lessons on playing backup banjo in the thumb lead two finger style have utilized “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” in the key of G and standard G tuning. This “off the cuff” video demonstrates that all the backup skills and techniques I have laid out in these lessons can be applied to other tunes, other tunings and other keys. Using the “boom chick” pattern, I play back up to three fiddle tunes in the key of D in this video—Mississippi Sawyer, Whiskey Before Breakfast and Spotted Pony. Hopefully, this re-enforces the point that the backup skills I am teaching are universal and are not restricted in their use by genre, key, time signature, nor tuning.
