MILA’S EYE PROBLEMS: A CLOSE LOOK AT DISTICHIASIS DIAGNOSIS:
Mila’s excessive blinking and half-shut eye were signs that something was wrong. We went to the ophthalmologist specialty vet, where we learned that she has distichiasis, a condition where eyelashes grow abnormally on the eye. The eye specialist confirmed some irritation to the eye with mild erosion, and performed a simple procedure to pluck out the eyelashes causing discomfort. Thanks to the timely vet visit, Mila is healing with antibiotics, and her eye is already improving, and no major ulcers. If your dog is blinking excessively or squinting, don’t wait—get a vet checkup! Eye ulcers can cause a lot of issues if left untreated.

LEARN ABOUT DISTICHIASIS IN PETS:
In this video, you'll see Mila's eye check-up at the vet ophthalmologist after she was having trouble with her right eye. She was squinting and seemed uncomfortable, so a vet appointment was made to check it out. It turns out Mila has distichia, a condition where eyelashes grow in abnormal places, touching her eyeball. The vet removed two eyelashes to help with the issue and prescribed antibiotics to ensure healing of the erosion (irritation to the eyeball). If your pet is squinting or blinking a lot, it's a good idea to get them checked by a specialist.

In conclusion, Mila's visit to the eye doctor revealed that she has distichia, where her eyelashes are growing onto her eye, causing discomfort. The vet removed two abnormal lashes and prescribed antibiotics to aid in healing. While the vet visit was costly, it was worth it to ensure Mila's eye is properly treated. If your pet shows signs like squinting or excessive blinking, it’s always best to consult with a specialist for a thorough check-up. After 14 days, her eye is healed, and we hope to only go back for our yearly checkup!
