Brain Control- Not Just For Mad Scientists Anymore | Jeffrey Moehlis, Ph.D. | TEDxUCSB

Описание: This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. What if brain control can treat Parkinson's Disease? Jeffrey Moehlis explores the intersection between neuroscience and chaos theory, giving examples of how changing the brain can change medical science.

Dr. Jeff Moehlis received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2000. He is currently a professor in the Department of Engineering. His research areas include neuroscience (developing algorithms for controlling neurons, inspired by deep brain stimulation of patients with Parkinson's Disease), turbulence (understanding the transition to and nature of shear flow turbulence), energy harvesting (converting vibrational energy to useful power), and collective behavior (fish schooling, social networks, group decision making). In his spare time, Jeff Moehlis writes concert reviews for noozhawk.com and spends time with his daughters Kaia and Teagan.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
