Jenike & Johanson - demonstration of sifting segregation behavior. Material handling engineer describes how a well-blended material can readily segregate during routine powder handling. Note the fine particles (in yellow color) concentrate under the pile impact point, while the more coarse particles (in grey color) roll off to the pile periphery. This creates a side-to-side segregation pattern with fine particles in the center and coarse particles to the periphery. Discharge with funnel flow will make segregation effects worse, while mass flow discharge will reduce or eliminate segregation effects.
