Better known for his later co-composer credit on “Home,” violinist and songwriter Peter Van Steden was also a bandleader, fronting a fantastic hot dance band in the New York City area beginning in 1924. “Van’s Collegians,” also known as “Van and His Collegians” and “Van and His Orchestra” were soon brought under the auspices of Arthur Lange who likely helped them get some of their early radio gigs and likewise their recording contract with Pathe. Later still they were managed by Roger Wolfe Kahn, who had a relationship with Lange going back a few years “Whose Who Are You,” recorded in March of 1926, has that bouncy mid-1920s hot dance sound with a fun alto saxophone solo possibly from William Zimmer.
