Alcohol kills nearly twice as many people in the UK as suicide, yet addiction remains a taboo topic and is often missing from workplace wellbeing strategies.
Official statistics show that employed individuals are more likely to drink heavily than those unemployed, with the highest rates of excessive drinking found in managerial and professional occupations.
Factors such as long working hours, high physical demands, risk of injury, job insecurity, and the pressure to fit into organisational culture all contribute to higher levels of alcohol consumption in the workplace.
In this webinar for Alcohol Awareness Week with special guests Victoria Seed who support families impacted by addiction, and Shell Righini founder of the We Recover Loudly Podcast we delve into this critical topic.
We discuss the links between excessive alcohol consumption and poor mental health and wellbeing. We'll also explore the impact on employees who have caring responsibilities for partners with problematic alcohol use or dependency, and how the hospitality industry is significantly affected by employee heavy drinking.
Most importantly, we share actionable insights on how employers can make small changes to embed recovery-friendly practices into their wellbeing strategies.
By treating addiction like any other health problem, employers can better support employees struggling with addiction and foster a healthier, more supportive work environment.
