Scientists see rivers as larger network of flowing streams. The locations where streams join one another are called confluences. Flows merging at the confluences may differ in volume, speed and quality of their waters. Interactions between merging flows and the way the flows become mixed are of great importance for water quality and ecological conditions in the river networks.
This documentary is about the cooperative project "Transport and Mixing at River Confluences" funded by DFG (SU 407/7) and NSF, USA. The film highlights an original field-based experimental methodology in fluvial hydrodynamics, which was developed by IGB scientist Dr. Alexander Sukhodolov.
