Founded in 2003 by acclaimed drummer, singer, and songwriter Stanley Kipper, New Primitives has become one of the Midwest’s most dynamic musical acts. Stanley Kipper’s remarkable career began long before the band’s formation; while living in southern California, he played, toured, or recorded with legendary artists including Minnie Riperton, The Bee Gees, Joe Walsh, Bill Withers, Randy Meisner (former Eagle), Jay Ferguson, Andrew Gold, Karla Bonoff, Melanie, and Gypsy. The hits created by these iconic musicians have deeply influenced Stan’s own creative vision, inspiring him to blend funky R&B and American reggae with global musical influences.
The band’s debut and sophomore records, New Primitives and American Nomads, quickly gained national recognition, enjoying top ten chart positions across the United States and Canada and earning airplay from coast to coast. In recognition of his contributions to music, Stan Kipper received the 2020 Midwest Rock and Country Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, and both he and bandmate Chico were honored with induction into the St. Louis Classic Rock Hall of Fame as members of the band Gypsy.
In 2018, New Primitives captured the vibrant energy of their live performances with the recording of their third album at A440 Studios in New Hope, Minnesota. This release, titled Primitive Road, arrived on November 8, 2024, and further cemented the band’s reputation for innovative and engaging music.
