Playing through the original Ys, the Famicom version. I learned later on that this is not considered to be a good port, and probably better off playing either the TG16 CD version, or the PC98 version. Still, I'm a fan of Famicom, so it's cool to check out this version which I still enjoyed.
Original Ys inspired a lot of games with it's bump combat, but of course the original bump combat game was Hydlide. I really enjoy bump combat, it may seem a bit silly but there's a satisfying simplicity to killing the enemy by smashing into them. The original Ys and Ys 2 are the main ones to have this mechanic, and I think they're quite fun and straightforward RPGs. It helps that they have incredible music, though the Famicom's music isn't quite as impressive as the CD versions, it's still very good though.
