This video presents a performance of “Trois préludes en forme de blues – I. Lento cantabile” from the Three Preludes composed in 1926 by the American composer and pianist George Gershwin.
Gershwin wrote these preludes at a time when the musical language of American blues and jazz was entering the classical concert repertoire. The piece reflects his unique ability to combine the rhythmic vitality and harmonic colour of jazz with the structure and elegance of classical piano music. Works such as Rhapsody in Blue helped establish this synthesis, which remains one of Gershwin’s most distinctive contributions to twentieth-century music.
The marking “Lento cantabile” invites the performer to play slowly and in a singing, lyrical manner, allowing the blues-inspired melody to unfold with expressive nuance and warmth.
The performance presented here was recorded in 2025 and performed on grand piano by Agnieszka Kubaszewska, whose interpretation emphasizes the reflective and lyrical character of the work.
The video recording of this performance was made by Bogusław Kubaszewski.
