Описание: Little River Band (LRB), the iconic Australian soft rock group formed in 1975, really hit their stride in the 1980s with a mix of massive hits, lineup drama, and evolving sounds that kept them on the charts worldwide.
The early '80s still carried the momentum from their late '70s breakthroughs like "Reminiscing" and "Cool Change," but the decade brought big changes.
Glenn Shorrock, the original lead vocalist with that distinctive voice on so many classics, was central to the band's identity through albums like Time Exposure (1981, produced by George Martin). Tracks like "Take It Easy on Me" and "The Night Owls" kept the harmonies and melodic rock flowing.
In February 1982, Shorrock left (or was ousted amid internal tensions and his desire for solo work) — a shock for fans. He was replaced by fellow Aussie powerhouse John Farnham, who stepped in as lead singer from 1982 to 1986.
Farnham brought a fresh, powerful vocal edge to the band during this transitional phase. His first big contribution was on the 1982 Greatest Hits compilation with "The Other Guy" (#11 US), followed by albums like The Net (1983) — featuring "We Two" and "You're Driving Me Out of My Mind" — and Playing to Win (1984), plus No Reins (1986).
The sound shifted toward a more polished, synth-tinged '80s rock vibe, but it didn't quite recapture the earlier US chart peaks, though they stayed popular in Australia and on tours.
Farnham eventually left in 1986 to launch his mega-successful solo career (hello, "You're the Voice"), and Shorrock actually returned later in the decade.
The '80s era for LRB is all about that Shorrock-to-Farnham handover — two incredible voices defining different chapters of the band's soft rock legacy.
