Backbending is naturally stimulating — it activates the sympathetic nervous system, which can be a good thing when done in the morning. A little boost in cortisol can help set your circadian rhythm and energize you for the day ahead.
But doing too much intense backbending in the evening? That can leave you wired and restless, making it harder to wind down.
The key is learning how to find your edge without tipping into overwhelm. One of the best tools to regulate this balance is the breath.
Long inhales? Use them when you feel tired or sluggish.
Long exhales? Use them to calm down and downregulate when overstimulated.
Like the perfect cup of coffee, the goal isn’t intensity for its own sake — it’s balance.
What time of day do you prefer backbends? Have you noticed how it affects your energy? Let me know in the comments.💭😉
