Описание: Towns, traders and craftspersons played an important role in the economic and cultural development of medieval India. Towns grew as centres of administration, pilgrimage, and trade, attracting merchants and skilled artisans. Traders travelled long distances, connecting local markets with distant regions and even foreign lands, bringing goods such as spices, textiles and precious metals. Craftspersons such as weavers, metalworkers, carpenters and goldsmiths formed specialised groups or guilds and produced high-quality handmade goods. Many towns became famous for particular crafts—for example, textiles in Thanjavur or bronze idols in Kanchipuram. Together, these towns, traders and craftspersons contributed to the growth of urban life, economic prosperity and cultural exchange during that period.
