Step Down - The Blue Hospital Sessions, Episode 8 (Motörhead Cover)

Описание: Motörhead burst into my life in summer ‘81, when I first heard their ear shattering live version of a ‘75 Hawkwind song called Motorhead (which was of course written by Lemmy). Only it couldn’t have been as ear shattering as I remember it to be, mainly because it came blaring from an old (probably new at that time) mono cassette player half buried under clothes, empty beer bottles and whatever a bunch of teens deemed worthy to bring on a camping trip in the early 80’s. But its impact on my juvenile brain can’t be overstated. It felt like being a china doll dragged along in an elephant stampede.
Weeks later a friend of mine came into possession of a copy of the Bomber album, I copied it to tape and nothing was ever the same again.

Released in 1979, Motörhead’s third studio album Bomber was jam-packed with future Motörhead classics. There were some strange exceptions though.
One of them was Step Down, a heavy blues sung by Motorhead’s guitarist Eddie Clarke. Don’t know what exactly drew me to this particular song, it certainly isn’t a favourite in the arsenal of favourites of most Motorhead aficionados I know (bar one, right Christoph?), but it always spoke to me.


So, when it came to selecting a new song for the Hospital Sessions and someone mentioned Step Down, it was practically a no-brainer for us, at least for Kai, Christoph and me. Adding pianist Pascal and drummer turned trumpeter Daniel to the line-up proved especially interesting, ’cause as you all know, the original doesn’t feature keys and trumpet. Or does it? As always, we fiddled a bit with the original arrangement, adding things and more things and told things to change positions so that other things could be placed where different things were before and thanks to the Captain’s magic all things fell into place.
