"Night Mime" is an unreleased song by Melanie Martinez. It was originally intended for her scrapped 2013 EP and later reworked for her debut album, Cry Baby, although it was ultimately cut from the final tracklist.[1] In 2016, Melanie began pitching the song to other artists.

The Cry Baby version leaked on June 4, 2021. The pitch demo, recorded that same month, leaked earlier on January 24, 2016. The original studio version from the 2013 EP has not leaked.

𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒:

"Night Mime" was initially written and recorded in 2013 for Martinez's unreleased EP of the same year, with production by SmarterChild. The EP was eventually shelved. The song was later rerecorded in 2014 with production by Robopop for inclusion on Cry Baby. Martinez referenced the song in a February 28, 2014 Facebook post, suggesting it was apart of an early version of the album.

The track was scrapped before release, which Martinez confirmed during her Dollhouse Tour as early as June 15, 2014, alongside another cut song, "You Love I". Despite this, "Night Mime" was performed live on October 12, 2014, at the ACL Music Festival.

In January 2016, following the release of Cry Baby, Martinez reworked the song as a demo intended for pitching to other artists, alongside to the other unreleased track "I Scream" rerecorded that same year, with production once again by SmarterChild.

The song explores a strained relationship between two lovers. The narrator feels neglected, as suggested by the lyrics "Forget my name at midnight" and "No text from you but I'll be fine." Embracing the metaphor of a mime—meant to be seen, not heard—the narrator bottles up their emotions, struggling to express their feelings or communicate their needs. This emotional suppression contributes to their insomnia, leaving them restless and unable to sleep.
