A Barolo that cannot be called Barolo.
In 2015, Giacomo Borgogno & Figli submitted a wine to the local consortium for classification as Barolo.
Due to a technical misunderstanding, it was not approved under the Barolo DOCG.
The response from the family was simple:
“No Name.”
Today, this wine is known as No Name — a 100% Nebbiolo from the town of Barolo, made entirely in the philosophy and quality tradition of Barolo.
Vineyards:
• Town of Barolo
• 370m altitude
• South-southeast exposure
• 4,000 vines per hectare
Winemaking:
• Destemmed
• Fermented around 25°C in clay amphora
• Gently pressed
• Aged over 2 years in large Slovenian oak
Vintage: 2022
Alcohol: 14%
Tasting profile:
Medium garnet in color.
Pronounced aromatics of fresh and tart cherry, cranberry, raspberry, subtle oak, truffle, and leather.
Dry, high acidity, high but velvety tannins, warming yet integrated alcohol.
Pronounced flavor intensity.
Long, structured, complex finish.
This is Nebbiolo in full Barolo philosophy — regardless of the label.
Great wine doesn’t need permission.
