My work with Eleonora Strino's transcriptions from the book 'Bebop Scales for Jazz Guitar'.
I am learning from the outstanding guitarist Eleonora Strino. Here is the transcription of her improvisation from the book "Bebop Scales for Jazz Guitar."
First solo:
I have arranged the transcription of Eleonora improvisation into the form of the well-known Charlie Parker tune 'Billie's Bounce.' The author says:
«These solos were improvised, and my aim was to use a variety of ideas and devices found in modern jazz. Alongside bebop scale phrases sit other jazz vocabulary, such as playing arpeggios from different chord tones, emphasising specific chord tone tensions – such as the b9 or b5 – and superimposing pentatonic and blues scales. I hope that this approach allows you to understand how to integrate bebop scale ideas naturally into your playing and to use them when appropriate».
We can also find in improvisation a common substitution ideas that has been used extensively in the playing of Wes Montgomery and Pat Martino. (A key part of Pat’s approach was to “minorize” every chord).
This is a great solo for analysis!
Second solo:
The improvisation takes place over the form of the popular jazz standard "Autumn Leaves," and we can find many wonderful motifs and solo lines in it.
