How far would you be willing to go in order to succeed? Hailey Wong, a professional squash player at the University of Pennsylvania, speaks about her lifelong journey as a student athlete, shedding light on the ins and outs of competing at an elite level - the struggles, the uncertainty, and what it actually means to succeed. Hailey Wong is a student-athlete at the University of Pennsylvania, where she plays on their Division I Varsity Squash Team and studies Finance at the Wharton School of Business. Hailey graduated from Diocesan Girls’ School in 2024. During her time there, she founded Because Mental Health, a student-led organization aimed at creating space for honest conversations about mental well-being.
Drawing from her experiences at both DGS and Penn, Hailey reflects on how mindset, environment, and self-awareness have shaped her approach to sports and academics. In her talk, she shares how being a student-athlete has helped her build strength and confidence to face challenges both on and off the court. Hailey also addresses the pressures of comparison and mental health, offering a candid look at what it means to grow through the process rather than focusing solely on the outcome. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
