Hello everyone. Well coming in from the west side seemed to be a bit easier. While I still can't finish the crossing we at least got about a third of the way across. This time we find a really great piece of history!! First really quick. This is the CNJ Coplay branch bridge that came of the mainline on the east side of the Lehigh river to interchange with the Ironton railroad on the west side in Coplay PA. The interchange was probably closer to Hokendauqua PA actually. The west side of the river is Lehigh county. Bridge was built in 1884.
Now the rail that we find the mill mark on is by far the best thing out of all six videos from this area. It is a piece of rail forged by the Lackawanna Iron & Steel Company out of Scranton PA. Rolled in 1892, this would have been the second year of operation under this name. Yes the company was much older but it wasn't till 1891 that it became known as the LI&S Co. In just a few short years the Lackawanna would become part of Bethlehem steel umbrella. This is the third older piece of rail we've come across and I was thrilled to find it. Thank you for watching. 8/4/24
