Some days, you just stumble across a band that blows you away. In the late 1980s, one such band to catch my attention, was a young all male band called Seven. The band was formed in 1989, consisting of Mick Devine (lead vocals), Keith Macfarlane (guitar/vocals), Pat Davey (bass guitar/vocals), Simon Lefevre (keyboards/vocals) and Austin Lane (drums).
Seven were an AOR band from Bournemouth, UK, and would now probably be likened to Foreigner and Journey. But, one key element is that of John Parr. For whom, if you're a fan of Parr's, you may recognise the Man With a Vision track.
There's good reason for this. Parr was hired to help produce the bands first single, but continued to assist on other recordings as well as help write some of the bands other songs.
Also responsible for helping to promote this band, (and one reason I came across them) was TV presenter Phillip Schofield (This Morning, The Cube). Schofield had heard the band and was keen to promote their music. (If my memory serves me well, they may well have been on the BBC Saturday TV show Going Live at some stage. N/C)
But, only after 1-2 years, the band split, due to a series of internal struggles and arguments.
I confess it has taken me 25+ years to retrack them down. And, after just hearing this track, I can assure you it brings back some lovely memories. I personally think it was a great shame we never got to appreciate more of this group.
(For the record - I fancied the one far right, even had the same haircut :P - #Sadcow)
