Ontario’s family doctor shortage continues to worsen, and new OMA data reveal its impact on patients across the province.
More than 2.5 million Ontarians lack access to a family doctor. New survey results show 52 per cent of family physicians are considering retirement in the next five years, while only 42 per cent of Ontario medical students are considering family medicine.
The Ontario Medical Association is releasing new data and polling on access to care, including rising emergency department wait times and the growing impact on chronic disease management.
This briefing outlines the latest findings and discusses what needs to change to ensure Ontarians can get the care they need.
Speakers:
Dr. Zainab Abdurrahman, President, Ontario Medical Association
Dr. David Barber, Chair, OMA Section on General and Family Practice
Rhea Saini, Vice President of Education, Ontario Medical Students Association
Gabrielle Trépanier, Vice President of Advocacy, Ontario Medical Students Association
