Step back to 1885 at Graham’s Mill in Lincoln, now Epworth Heights in Mason County, Michigan. This reel walks through a rare photograph showing John and Edmond Alfred Graham’s lumber operation on Lincoln Lake, with its smokestack, mill buildings, and crews working the shoreline north of Ludington.
Research from an early 1900s Berrien County history ties this same Edmond Graham to the steamboats Union and May Graham on the St. Joseph River. One family helps link two pieces of Michigan’s past: the logging boom on the Lake Michigan shore and the river traffic that connected inland towns to the lake.
