The NABL-accredited Ingress Protection (IP XX) Testing Laboratory at the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) sets a national benchmark for evaluating the durability of electrical, electronic, and hydro-metrological instruments. By simulating the toughest environmental conditions, the facility ensures that equipment meets the highest global standards (IEC/NEMA/ISO) for protection against the ingress of solid objects, such as dust particles, and water in various states. The lab features specialized facilities including a large-scale dust chamber, water testing setups for IP X1–IP X8 ratings, and a high-pressure IP X9K facility capable of testing with 80°C water at 100 bars of pressure. Additionally, the center provides advanced high-voltage facilities for dielectric and lightning impulse testing, playing a critical role in supporting domestic manufacturers and the Government’s Make in India initiative by providing reliable and safe instrument validation.
