Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular hikes in Banff National Park-but in winter, it becomes something completely different.
With fewer crowds, quiet catwalks, and no waiting at the upper or lower falls, this familiar trail felt calm, grounding, and surprisingly restorative. As the day unfolded, my energy shifted-more motivation, a lighter mood and a reminder of how much a simple walk outside can change how you feel.
This hike isn't long or demanding, but it's powerful in its own way. Moving through a place you know but don't visit every day, has a way of resetting your nervous system and bringing a sense of appreciation back into the moment.
Winter doesn't mean no adventures, sometimes it just means quieter ones.
Location: Johnston Canyon, Banff National Park
