5 Ways to Sculpt and File | How to Sculpt Different Acrylic Shapes

Today Sarah shows you how to create these five basic nail shapes. She shows you how to place the form on the nail, how to apply the acrylic and perfect the shape with filing.

Square:
One of the most basic shapes, Sarah pops the form on and leave the end open to make sure the nail doesn't taper in at all. She adds a small bead to where the join of the form and the natural nail is to give structure and build the free edge of the nail out, she then places a wet cuticle bead down and brings this over the nail. To finish the nail off Sarah files the nail, straight out from the side walls and the free edge before filing the cuticle area and evening the rest of the nail out.

Coffin:
This shape is much the same as the square however Sarah closes the end of the form to ensure the nail tapers in at the free edge. She then replicates the steps from before but builds a higher apex and brings the sidewalls of the nail more to a point.

Stiletto:
This nail comes to an extreme point but the side walls still remain straight with the nail. When filing this shape Sarah brings the file directly down the middle of the nail to give it the crisp shape you expect from a Stiletto.

Almond:
Almond is much the same as the Stiletto however this is a much softer shape, Sarah makes sure the free edge of this nail has a nice curve to it. This shape suits every one, great for older clients and gives you an elegant look.

Round:
Round is going to give you the most natural look out of all of the shapes. Sarah builds the nail out matching the almond nail but ensures that the free edge is much more rounded.
