On December 13, Frank Wasilewski joined Home Sweet Home Chicago on WGN Radio to discuss a major upcoming change in Medicare that will directly impact seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those recovering from injuries or surgeries.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Medicare will officially pay for in-home evaluations when initiated by a physician. These assessments focus on a person’s living environment—identifying obstacles such as stairs, bathroom access, and mobility challenges—and incorporating those findings into the patient’s medical record. While Medicare has long allowed doctors to document home assessments, this marks the first time the evaluation itself will be reimbursed.
During the interview, Frank explains:
• Why the home environment is critical to a patient’s overall health profile
• How in-home evaluations help doctors make better, more informed care decisions
• The role of physicians in initiating Medicare-billable home assessments
• How proactive planning can improve safety before an injury, surgery, or mobility decline occurs
• How Access Elevator, Inc. can support patients and physicians with guidance, brochures, and advanced AI-based home scans reviewed by Occupational and Physical Therapists.
This conversation highlights an important step forward in preventive care, aging in place, and safer recovery at home.
