I started this new journey from my home with the prayers of my mother and children, beginning another unforgettable adventure. This time, my mission was clear — to travel to Shandur Pass in winter and experience firsthand the weather conditions, road situation, and real challenges of this legendary route during extreme cold.
On this day, even Punjab — including my village — dropped to 0°C, and the weather was extremely foggy and cold. Because of the dense fog, we couldn’t leave on time and finally started our journey around 9:00 AM. Joining me on this mission was my travel partner Akif Waqar, who has already traveled with me on two previous adventures.
After traveling just 3 kilometers, the fog became so intense that we had to wear rain suits. Visibility was extremely low, and while the road ahead was barely visible, our clothes were getting completely wet due to heavy fog. Since I wear glasses, the fog constantly covered the lenses, forcing me to ride without glasses all the way to Mianwali, which was one of the most difficult parts of the journey for me.
About 16 km before Mianwali, at Kundian Mor, we stopped at our usual roadside tea stall, where we take a break on almost every trip. Fortunately, the weather cleared up there. I put my glasses back on, enjoyed a hot cup of tea, and then we continued our journey towards Talagang.
From Mianwali city, we refueled with engine oil and continued our ride on the newly carpeted N-135 road from Kianwali to Talagang. The road was smooth and peaceful, and once the sun came out, the intensity of the cold reduced significantly.
As evening approached, we finally reached Talagang at around 5:00 PM. By then, we had completed a total distance of 260 kilometers. We decided to stay overnight in Talagang and checked into Malik Hotel, owned by Mushtaq Malik Bhai. After having dinner, we paid PKR 1000 per night for the hotel room.
This marks Day 1 of Mission Shandur Pass (Winter) — a journey filled with fog, freezing temperatures, and determination.
The real adventure is just beginning, so watch till the end and stay tuned for the upcoming episodes.
