At the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, we have an important role in providing education to promote healing and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. All Alaskans have the responsibility to learn and and understand Alaska's shared history. That's why our employees at ANTHC participate in the the Alaska Blanket Exercise (ABE).
ABE is an experiential history lesson that tells the story of Alaska Native history and land. All individuals experiencing an ABE receive the history lesson through the lens of an Alaska Native person. The curriculum is modeled after a best practice exercise used by Indigenous people in Canada.
Participating in exercises such as the ABE is a way for Alaskans to work together on building a relationship based on understanding and mutual respect.
