In this video, I dive into the karmic meaning of every retrograde planet in a natal chart, breaking down what it symbolizes and how it manifests in your life. Retrograde planets hold deep significance in astrology, often reflecting themes of review, refinement, and balancing energies from a karmic perspective.

From our vantage point on Earth, a planet goes retrograde when it appears to move backward in the sky. Though this is an optical illusion caused by its proximity to Earth, the symbolism of “moving backward” speaks volumes about the inner work associated with retrograde planets. It’s a process of revisiting, relearning, and rebalancing areas that may have been out of alignment in the past.

In this video, I explore the fascinating differences between inner and outer planets in retrograde and what they reveal about our karmic journeys. Inner planets—Mercury, Venus, and Mars—represent conscious functions we use daily, such as communication, relationships, and personal drive. When retrograde, their impact is more direct and evident in our personality and day-to-day experiences.

Outer planets, on the other hand (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) connect us to larger-scale karmic lessons and generational themes. Their retrogrades tend to operate on a deeper, more subtle level, shaping our long-term growth and spiritual evolution.

Retrogrades are also far more common in outer planets, whereas inner planet retrogrades—like Mercury, Venus, and Mars—are rare. For instance, only about 15% of people have Mercury retrograde in their chart, and even fewer have Venus or Mars retrograde. Outer planets are in retrograde nearly half of the time so they are very common in natal charts.

These placements hold distinct karmic lessons, and I’ve gone into detail about what each retrograde planet signifies and how it manifests in your life. I also discuss how charts with many retrograde planets can feel and function quite differently from those with only one or none, highlighting the significance of these retrograde placements in shaping your soul’s journey.

Although I didn’t include Chiron retrograde (slipped my mind, but it’s important!) in this video, I want to touch on it briefly. Chiron retrograde often points to deeply internalized wounds and the need for self-healing before offering healing to others.
