In roughly 1.3 million years’ time the star Gliese 710 will pass within 0.166 light years of the Solar System. This is 25 times closer than the current nearest star Proxima Centauri. No other star has been predicted to pass as close to this future and, as far as we know, no star has been as close in the past.
The impact on the Solar System could be significant with around 30 million new comets. This video tells the story.
