This level crossing is found on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML) within the village of Ardleigh, geographically found in between Colchester and Manningtree. Despite the fairly quiet village-y surroundings at this level crossing, each of the two alarms here is incredibly loud, louder even than quite a majority of level crossings, some even in much busier areas than this! It seems unclear as to why the alarms here are this loud, as the surroundings are usually fairly quiet with traffic only building up during each lowering. One of the barrier lights here oddly has a number one stuck to it.

During my visit here on this occasion, four separate lowerings were filmed in full. The level crossing activated for the fifth time just as I was starting to leave, and the freight train which it activated for was filmed and is featured at the end of this video.
